Finger Strength and Health  Although rock climbing is considered a low impact sport it puts a lot of work and weight on your fingers and tendons. It is important to keep them healthy and strong in order to prevent injuries. When climbing our fingers will often take 100% of our body weight and that means they need to be prepared to take on that much weight. Below I will go over a training plan that will help build and support your fingers and tendons alongside going over the importance of treating injuries.  What to do when you get Injured?  Getting injured can be very demotivating and worry some. For some it may be pulling a tendon or for others it could be rupturing the tendon. It is important to prevent these injuries however I understand that is not always possible. What gear do you need? Essential pieces of gear based on your goals!

 What gear do you need to achieve your rock climbing goals? Bouldering INDOORS gear - NOTHING!  -You can rent the shoes and chalk from almost all climbing gyms! This is by far the most accessible form of climbing and anyone can try it if they wish. Having the rock wall on campus at SDSU means it is very easy to try it. All you need it a barcode to get into the gym and you can rent out shoes to try the bouldering wall. It is a super fun and exciting way to stay active and work out. Even at climbing gyms off campus you always have the option to rent climbing shoes because they are expensive.  Top Rope or Lead climb INDOORS gear  -NOTHING AGAIN! -Once again you can rent climbing shoes, harness, chalk, rope and belay device from most climbing gyms! Joshua Tree National Park  A beginners guide Have you ever wanted to climb on the sharpest rocks ever and become a climbing god?  Then make it out to Joshua Tree this season. Just a mere 3 hours northeast of San Diego is the beautiful and sought after Joshua Tree National Park . I just recently took my first trip out there and I fell in love. The climbing was something out of this world and the people you meet there are some of the greatest on the planet.  Important things to know: -No service in the park, however this problem could be solved with Starlink -No water access in park, so bring plenty!!     -These water jugs   from Vons worked great for me  -Costs $30 to enter the park everyday, so if you leave the next day will be another $30 -It's called Joshua Tree, because all the the trees everywhere are called Joshua Trees!! -Around this time of the year it is FREEZING at night, but also absolutely beautiful!
